A big part of our exploring means that we are out and about lots! With our little kids, this comes with a few challenges with regards to making sure our active little guys have enough fuel to get them through the day – sometimes we want to restrain ourselves from buying take-aways and sometimes there are simply no options to purchase food. So making sure that we have healthy and attractive food for us and the kids is hugely important to us, and for that reason we were more than happy to undertake a sponsored opportunity from Tip Top to promote their New Tip Top The One Mixed Grains bread!
The key things that we consider when preparing food options for the kids are planning, having fresh and healthy ingredients and also having fun (yes, we do let our kids play with their food!). Why planning? Well, we like to keep the kids entertained and engaged by partly preparing some food that the kids can have fun with while they finish the preparation! Having fresh and healthy food speaks for itself – our little guys (along with most little kids) are incredibly active and so we want them to have plenty of energy and nutrition!
Putting that into practice is easy! We plan our day and the food and snacks that we take with us. Things like: if we are going to the beach, we will try to prepare our food with a marine-theme – pre-cutting fish and starfish shaped bread is super easy, and crabs are no trouble either! If we go to bushwalking, we will create some yummy caterpillars and ladybeetles! We use healthy ingredients like fresh vegetables (we vary what use, but usually a few contrasting colours) and 4-star health rated Tip Top The One Mixed Grains bread. The kids then have a great time arranging and decorating the fresh vegetables onto the bread shapes, and the end results look great!
This is the same philosophy that Tip Top used to create their The One Mixed Grains – they asked kids to pick grains and added just the right amount of these to create a soft and tasty bread that’s as nutritious as it is delicious. And while it’s sometime a little shame to eat their magnificent creations, the kids are more than happy to eat them because they had so much fun preparing them, and you can see by the looks on their faces that they are always proud of their work!
