Where is it: Parkyn Parade, Mooloolaba, Sunshine Coast
Why we love it: It’s a really interesting marine park set in wonderful Mooloolaba!
Tell me more: A family trip to the Sunshine Coast is not complete without visiting Sea Life Sunshine Coast (formerly Underwater World) - an awesome little aquarium and marine park! For almost 30 years Sea Life Sunshine Coast has been educating and entertaining with their magnificent collection of marine animals - there are a number of different tanks which house all sorts of different creatures – from star fish, jelly fish, all sorts of marine and freshwater fish, seals, otters, crocodiles and sharks. There are so many different things to see in the range of different aquariums and the magnificent glass-covered walkway underneath the shark tank - including 3 very impressive grey nurse sharks called ‘Pallas’, ‘Patchy’ and ‘Huey’! And it’s not just looking, you can also touch some of the star fish, feed a seal or even (if you’re game), go diving with sharks!
The park always plays host to lots of special and school holiday programs like that will keep everyone (not just the little guys) engaged with lots of immersive and interactive exhibits! Our little guys loved exploring the aquarium with a pirate-themed treasure hunt and there was much excitement searching the aquarium for mermaids and pirate artefacts, and the daily pirate and mermaid performances were really fun! On previous visits we've enjoyed fun themes such as Octonauts, Dory and Nemo, and SLIMED!, where we got feel and learn about some of the slimy creatures in the sea! And we still have still have very fond memories of the now closed exhibits of Creatures of the Deep with its weird and wonderful creatures that inhabit the deep seas - and Jurassic Seas which showcased some of the living fossils found in our oceans.
We love aquariums, and this one is great fun for all the family - it’s always a lovely and fun atmosphere, and it’s definitely worthy of a visit!
Amenities: Good amenities as expected, including a couple of food options! 👍👍👍
Parking: Parking available but this place (especially during the holidays) gets busy! 👍👍
Access: Good access throughout the facility! 👍👍👍👍
Best for: It's great for the whole family – the little guys will absolutely love the themed exhibits! 👍👍👍👍
Summary: One of our favourite places to visit – great for sparking an interest of marine life in the minds of our little guys! 👍👍👍👍
Hints: Plan your visit – the layout could be a little confusing and you don’t want to miss anything!

What’s it all about: Australia's very first Spotlight Creative store opening right here in Brisbane!
Tell me more: Because of their huge variety of fabric, craft supplies and homewares (plus a few toys as well!) Spotlight stores have been a go-to store for Australian families for over 4 decades. As you might expect, it’s kind of a big event when they decide to open a new store, it's definitely reason for celebration - even more so when it's the first of its kind! Spotlight Creative has just opened its doors in Westfield Carindale, and as its name suggests, this store has a focus on getting crafty and creative!
We enjoyed a fantastic and fun filled morning for Spotlight Creative's grand opening celebration - Live music all day long, a visit from Paw Patrol, balloon creations and face painting were all part of this party! And the store itself has more than enough to keep us occupied - the little guys were more than happy checking out the craft and party supplies and managed to find a few toys as well! It was a really fun day and it was great to be part of their special event! We will definitely be back again to stock up on supplies!

Why we love it: Putt putt with a Pixar theme – what more needs to be said?!
Tell me more: Mini golf has been a family favourite since, well, forever! So add in theme theme of one of the most popular family animated franchises of the last 25 years (yes, Pixar movies have been around that long!) you know that it’s going to be a fun event. Work your way through 18 holes of fantastically modelled scenarios, all based on Pixar movies – The Incredibles, Finding Nemo, Brave, Up, Monsters, Inside out, The Good Dinosaur, Cars, Wall-E and Coco are all covered, and Toy Story is very well represented as well! We had so much fun playing with the kids, the holes have some wonderful challenging elements which the little guys loved, and it’s just as much fun for the grown-ups as well. So much so that from Thursday to Sunday after 7pm, Pixar Putt is reserved for the adults. This one is definitely one to check out, but hurry – its only here for a limited time, finishing up on the 14 July 2019!

What's it all about: A fantastic way to see out the end of winter! Redcliffe KiteFest gets you close to the water with a wonderful carnival of flying colour and fun! It's one of Moreton Bay Region's biggest annual celebrations!
How can I join in: On annually around the end of winter / start of spring, keep an eye out on Moreton Bay Regional Council's website for more details!
Tell me more: KiteFest is a truly amazing and colourful event with an amazing carnival atmosphere! Not only are there so many awesome kites from the international and professional kite artists, but there is also an incredible entertainment line-up - like aerobatics, jet ski and flyboard shows, carnival rides, kids zone, and main stage entertainment shows always have some great shows planned. Little kids and big are equally well catered for in the entertainment area! It's also right by the beach which just adds to the atmosphere, and lots of food and market stalls make this a complete event for the whole family!
The very popular public kite flying area lets you join in on the action, and if you can avoid getting your line crossed with the others in this area, you could stay in here for ages! It is a really popular event, so take note of the public transport and parking options - you will be very lucky to find parking around the area. Kitefest is great value too with both family passes and all-day rides passes available, and is a really fun day (or weekend) out by the beach at Redcliffe - we think that it's one of the best family events in the region!
And just when we thought that it couldn't get any better - in 2018 KiteFest added their 'KiteFest after Dark program - the rides and stall continue to operate into the night, illuminated kites fly high and a fantastic fireworks display, including pyrotechnic jetskis, provides the perfect finale!

What’s it all about: Fun challenges to complete with the added pressure of a timer – fantastic family fun!
Tell me more: For those who haven’t experienced an escape room, let us firstly tell you that they are a perfect activity for family or for a group of friends! Simply put, the idea of an escape room is that you are put together into a room, and you must solve a number of challenges in order to either escape or to reach your goal! Seraphim Escape currently has 2 rooms (with more soon to be added) – a Christmas-themed one which is perfect for families with younger kids and one which is a little more on the scary side. We tried out the family friendly option of course and we had the best time! Half an hour to solve a number of challenges and we only just made it – the kids were so excited as the clock ticked down and it did become a little nerve-wracking by towards the end, but super fun! Highly recommended for those with inquisitive kids or even would be great as an outing away from the little guys! We can’t wait to try out another!
