Part of the Chermside Hills Reserves, Raven Street Reserve is part of a network of environmental reserves set aside by Brisbane City Council - they are a great way to get back to nature right in the middle of suburbia and are a relaxing and easy-to-access escape from the city! Situated within Raven Street Reserve is The Downfall Creek Bushland Centre - another one of the great, council operated facilities that you will find in Brisbane (another to visit is the Boondall Wetlands Centre).
You can come along to the reserve at any time - it's essentially parkland and open to all. In order to visit the Downfall Creek Bushland Centre, check the website for opening hours. There's no fee required to come in and the rangers and staff are more than helpful and will certainly help you find your way around or offer some great environmental advice!
The nice little displays will provide some great information about the stresses that our environment faces, as well as suggesting easy ways to change our behaviour (that we all can follow) that will make a positive impact on the environment. We spent some nice time in the Bushland Centre before heading out to explore the bush outside - although we did have to release a bit of energy at the playground that's on site!
After a quick play, we found that there's a boardwalk running through the bush - great for pushing a pram or for those with mobility difficulties - the toilets are also similarly pram friendly. It's a really easy place to wander around and explore and there are plenty of opportunities to spot some wildlife - even if it is only a bug! We spotted a number of different birds, but we think that there must be heaps of kangaroos and wallabies jumping around out there.
We really enjoy having access to these areas of bushland and recommend that everyone try to get along to visit these great areas!
