Where is it: At Westfield Chermside, 395 Hamilton Rd, Chermside QLD 4032
Why we love it: The thrill of a free-fall without the heights!
Tell me more: iFly is an indoor skydiving centre and it’s one of those things that you just have to do! And it’s so easy to get into - it’s situated in the city at one of Brisbane’s most popular shopping complexes and all you have to do is book your time slot, turn up an hour earlier for your briefing and to get kitted up and then start flying - no experience is needed! It’s basically a big glass tube that forces huge amounts of air through it so that you can fly. The speed of the air is controlled and adjusted so that you get just the right amount of lift and keep you airborn and you always have an expert skydiver with you guiding and assisting as you require.
We went along on a family pass (which is great value) and we all had a go - even our little 4 year old tried it and we all had a fantastic time! And as fun as the basic flying was, the High Flight was even more amazing as your instructor will carry you up (and bring you down) right to the top of the tube! Once you get a taste of it you will want more, and iFLY also offers training programs so that you can build up your skills and have even more fun. It’s also the perfect spot for parties or group functions. iFLY Chermside is open Open 7 days a week from 9am - 10pm.
Disney Pixar's Coco
Where is it: At cinemas everywhere across Australia from 26 December 2017.
What's it all about: A lovely movie about a little boy chasing his dreams!
Tell me more: Disney Pixar needs no introduction – their movies have pretty much revolutionised people’s expectations when it comes to kids movies! Coco is a very special movie that is set around the theme of Day of the Dead celebrations in Mexico! Miguel is a young boy who was born into a family of shoe-makers but despite his family’s ban on music he wants nothing more than to be a musician, and in his journey chasing his dreams he discovers the importance of his family and ancestry!
This was a lovely movie that like a lot of Disney Pixar films, offers great entertainment for the kids and more than enough to engage the parents! The computer-generated graphics and colours are vibrant and the music is spectacular! We went along with our 3 kids – our oldest, at 7, really connected with the storyline and couldn’t stop asking about his ancestry after the movie! Our younger boy who is 4 loved the setting and Miguel’s trusty sidekick – a street-dog named Dante! And even though this was our first time at the cinema with our little 2-year-old – she sat to attention and watched the whole movie – something we weren’t expecting but this movie certainly did grab us as a family! We rate this movie 4.5 out of 5 for families!
Apple Kids Hour
Where is it: Apple Store, Westfield Chermside
What’s it all about: Try your hand at a little basic coding at Apple Store's Sphero Maze Challenge!
How can I join in: Book on line for the free hour long session and head along to Chermside's Apple Store!
Tell me more: This fun little event is awesome for primary school aged kids, but even some of the younger guys will be keen to give it go! The Apple Store will provide you with a loan Sphero Sprk+ robot (or you can bring your own if you're lucky enough to own one!) and iPad and will teach you some basic coding as you try to program the robot to make its way through a maze! It's heaps of fun and it's amazing to watch how quickly the kids pick it up! Such a great introduction to coding and programming and a really fun way to learn!
