Where is it: Grey Street, South Brisbane
Why we love it: A great way to make such an awesomely interesting place just a little more interesting!
Tell me more:
We love visiting the Queensland museum, so if there's an opportunity to make a special visit after hours we just had to go along! Held at various times throughout the year (including one of our favourite times of the year, Halloween!) - the museum opens its doors to a limited number of patrons to go on a guided tour through the museum, including special themes, exhibitions and added extras! It's always a fun place to visit, so with a little more to entertain, amaze and educate us it ends up being an incredible experience! You need tickets for these nights, so head along to the Queensland Museum to find out when their next night at the museum is being held, get your tickets and enjoy!

What's it all about: It’s Australia’s biggest duck race! How could we not love this!
Tell me more: Summertime Riverfest hopes to give Cancer the Quack – by holding Australia’s Biggest duck race and raising funds for cancer research! Not real ducks, but tens of thousands of rubber duckies! There are heaps of fun family activities to get involved in (aside from the duck racing), including jumping castles, face painting and zorbing – there’s even a Queensland Reds inflatable football field for the little footy fans! There are also team duck races, there’s great food, a chill out zone for the kids and one of the highlights would have to be the celebrity race – where celebrities can ride on inflatable ducks to race down the Brisbane River! But the main event is the release of thousands of rubber ducks into a custom built, 100 metre long course – buy a ticket and you get a duck – the first 4 across the line win some great prizes! Such a fun filled event and an awesome way to raise money for cancer research!

What's it all about: One of the great museums in Queensland's Museum Network - dedicated to rail workers and the history of rail in Queensland!
How can I join in: The museum is open daily and is an easy drive from Brisbane so head along at any time, or keep an eye on their website for special programs!
Tell me more: The Workshops Rail Museum is a really fun place to visit at any time, but for kids, it's especially fun when they have their special programs on, like Day out with Thomas! They also have special school holiday activities, Easter and Christmas events and many more throughout the year! The museum is situated on and in the actual workshops and rail yards that constructed and maintained much of Queensland's early rail network! There are a number of actual trains that you can get up close to, heaps of historical artefacts and lots of memorabilia. The kids will love the dedicated play areas, and the whole museum is really spread out so you can relax as you wander around at your own pace! A really fun day out for the whole family!
Amenities: Full amenities including a café - picnics are welcomed too! 👍👍👍👍👍
Cost: Reasonably priced and a good deal on annual passes! 👍👍👍
Parking: More than enough parking available - some of the event days do get busy though! 👍👍👍👍
Access: Access has been considered and ramps added to all areas of the museum! 👍👍👍👍

What's it all about: Brisbane's very own paper plane championships, where the aim for everyone is to have fun!
How can I join in: It's just finished its second year running, hopefully many more to come!
Tell me more: Inspired by the movie 'Paper Planes', these championships have been organised by a local family intent on seeing kids out having fun and raising some money for charity! It's a simple concept - grab a few pieces of paper, make your best plane, and throw! There were 3 separate competitive events - expression session, longest throw and longest airtime - and there's also plenty of time to practice and have fun. We spent the week prior to the event coming up with our best designs, but we were no match for the finalists who's planes regularly fly over 30 metres! A great little event that got the whole family excited about paper planes! I'm sure that there will be many more paper plane championships in our family before the next event comes along!

What's it all about: Oktoberfest was originally a couple of week's celebration held in Munich for a royal wedding and a similar celebration is held annually to commemorate the original. Lots of cities around the world now do the same, often rolling the party up into a celebration of things German!
How can I join in: Oktoberfest Brisbane runs for 6 days over two weekends. Buy your tickets online or at the gate and check out the Sunday funday which includes a ride package for the kids!
Tell me more: One of Brisbane's biggest festivals and running over two weekends, there's something for everyone at Oktoberfest Brisbane! You might even argue that there are three weekends of fun as the festivities kick off a week before the main event with a traditional raising-by-hand of the Oktoberpole in the city, which also comes with yummy German food and drink and music! At the main event, a massive beer hall that seats thousands is set up specially for Oktoberfest and is filled over the weekend with German music, dancing and singing. But it's so much more than the beer hall - there are heaps of food options and all so yummy! Stages outside the hall show off traditional German culture, there's a big selection of amusement rides and our kids' favourite spot, the 'Kinder-zone' - a dedicated area just for the little kids! Our little guys had lots of fun here, playing games with the amazing guys from Youngcare, learning Circus skills, checking out real live ocean life (who would have thought that you could see a little shark at Oktoberfest?) and snakes! On the stage at Kinder-zone we got to see traditional music and dance, we learned some German words and enjoyed a really fun puppet show! So much to do here - we had so much fun!

What's it all about: Not that Monster Jam needs an introduction, but it is simply the world's premiere touring monster truck show!
Tell me more: We're sure that everyone who has ever been up close to a monster truck would be hugely impressed! They are simply awesome machines! And there are none more impressive than the trucks of Monster Jam! With well known names such as Grave Digger, Monster Mutt and El Toro Loco, and joined by new machines Megalodon and Wonder Woman (here for the first time in 2017!), this show is one not to be missed! This show might be all about the trucks, but the whole show is hugely professional and entertaining - you can even go to the Party in the Pits for a more up-close-and-personal look of the trucks! You might even get to go for a drive on one of these amazing machines! So awesome!
