Where is it: 111 Constance Street, Fortitude Valley, 4006
Why we love it: A modern take on a pub classic!
Tell me more: The wonderful old building on Constance St in Fortitude Valley has been transformed into a fantastic bar with a little something that makes it stand out from the crowd - it’s a darts bar! Inside you will see that it has been tastefully fitted out while maintaining a lot of the charm of the old structure, and the darts booths are all electronic - so there’s no need to keep track of scores! Darts is the perfect old-school pub game, and Oche (pronounced “ockey”) has combined it perfectly with a fantastically atmosphered bar. Although the focus of Oche is darts, this 18+ venue would have no problem existing on its own with an amazing drinks menu and the meals are second to none. Oche is heaps of fun and one of those spots that you will just have to get to!
Where is it: 46 James Street AM5, Ada Lane, Fortitude Valley
What’s it all about: A stand-out restaurant in one of Brisbane’s premiere boutique shopping and dining districts!
Tell me more: James Street is a very impressive are here in Brisbane, with an eclectic mix of classy and boutique shopping and dining options. So it could be seen to be difficult to stamp your mark here - but it’s something that Beaux Rumble has managed to do in an impressive fashion! Beaux Rumble combines a chef in Alan Wise who boasts experience in some of the finest michelin-starred restaurants with a fantastically designed and presented location and created something wonderful. This restaurant just oozes class, and even though this is an upscale establishment, it still remains a place where you can casually relax.
The dishes here at Beaux Rumble replicate the fantastic fusion of the restaurant - perfectly presented dishes that taste absolutely wonderful, and extremely knowledgeable, friendly and helpful staff can explain the dishes, recommend options and perfectly pair your dish with one of the fantastic range of drinks. Portion size is well arranged and again the staff are happy to suggest the perfect combination of appetisers, entrees and mains (as well as desserts!). Adding to the amazing layers of flavours contained within the dishes themselves, the cooking here is done over wood-fire, with different, carefully selected timbers providing not only the fuel, but also imparting their flavour touch to the dishes through their smokes and aromas.
We feasted upon a fantastic combination and the dishes were all so impressive - it was hard to choose a standout. A lovely bread (shaped like a kernel of wheat) called Pain D’ Epi and made from spent beer grain got us going before moving onto entrees of a roast quail and grilled scallops which we couldn’t get enough of, but equally (as a good entree should) they made the thought of the main course even more enticing! The mains we had were both cooked to perfection over the wood - scampi and sirloin and oh so yummy! We finished off with a rhubarb and vanilla custard for dessert!
Dining at Beaux Rumble was a fantastic experience - a wonderful setting, atmosphere, service and above all, amazing food. Open for lunch Fridays and Saturdays and for dinner Tuesdays to Saturdays.
Where is it: 10/1 Eagle St, Brisbane City - right by the river!
What’s it all about: Not just fantastic coffee, but a wonderful menu and atmosphere makes this the perfect place to meet!
Tell me more: The Coffee Club is a stand-out Brisbane success story! Since its conception here in 1989, The Coffee Club has grown into Australia’s largest cafe group and has even spread internationally. Its philosophy of ‘Good Food, Great Service and Excellent Coffee’ sums it up quite well, but fails to mention The Coffee Club’s wonderful and relaxed atmosphere, which is well known throughout its cafes.
We were very fortunate to attend the 30th birthday celebrations of Brisbane’s very first The Coffee Club, which is right on the river at Eagle St Pier, and it’s sporting a brand new look and feel. The new look does nothing to upset The Coffee Club’s perfect balance between casual and classy, and no doubt it’s still going to be the standard answer to the question “Where will I meet you” for many more years to come!

Why we love it: Super yummy Turkish cuisine in a lovely relaxed setting!
Tell me more: We love Turkish food! Turkey’s geographical location and seemingly endless history have created a wonderful and varied array of flavours – as such we love visiting Turkish restaurants whenever we get the chance, and Caravanserai didn’t disappoint! The restaurant has a lovely and welcoming atmosphere which immediately transports you from a leafy Brisbane suburb to the crossroads of civilisations. Their share plates are a magnificent sample of flavours and are gaining a reputation of their own – we couldn’t ignore the flavours on offer and tried a share plate for two which consisted of a mouth-watering combination of beef, chicken, seafood, vegetables, rice, cheese and bread which was super tasty and the perfect way to both experience Turkish food and what this restaurant has on offer! Caravanserai is open for dinner on Tuesday to Sunday nights and for lunch on Fridays and Saturdays.
