Sylvan Beach, Bribie Island
Where is it: Sylvan Beach Esplanade, Bellara
Why we love it: Nice sand and gently sloping beaches make the water irresistible for our little kids! We love the parks as well!
Tell me more: Sylvan Beach runs along the western side of Bribie Island, separated from Sandstone Point on the mainland by the Pumicestone Passage. There are a number of parks spread along the beach and are really easily access from the esplanade. We visited a couple of parks - the Pirates Only Park and Crest Park - for a quick play and a splash! Only a short 20 metre walk from the parking areas (Pirates Only Park has off-street parking) and you will be at the picnic tables and playgrounds. The beach areas adjacent to both parks are easy to get to and both have shallow entries into the water - great for the little kids! Be aware that the parks are unfenced so you will have to keep an eye on the little guys! We had heaps of fun alternating between playground and beach, and we loved the fact that both parks have heaps of trees and shade!
Amenities: Toilets, picnic areas and drinking water available - there are also some cafes and shops nearby! 👍👍👍
Parking: Parking along the esplanade and some off street parking as well! 👍👍👍
Access: So easy to access, and only a short walk to the water! 👍👍👍👍
Best for: The playgrounds and calm water make this a great option for young families! 👍👍👍👍
Summary: A really nice option for a quiet and relaxing day by the water! Plenty of shady trees and easy access are big pluses! 👍👍👍
Hints: Keep an eye on the tides! At high tide the water might be a little deep for the little guys!

Emergency Services Expo
Where is it: Various locations – check the website for more details!
What's it all about: A day where all of our Emergency Services are represented and get to show off their skills!
How can I join in: We get to see a few of these expos around the region at different times of the year! They are free events and they would love to see your support!
Tell me more: We've got heaps of respect for all of our emergency services teams, they all have such an important role in our society and often go about their jobs without any fuss or recognition about what they do. So it's great to get along to these open days and give them a bit of attention, and it's great for the kids (and adults!) to get up close to the impressive equipment that is on show! We’ve been to previous expos at Bribie Island which started by having a water-bombing helicopter land right in front of us - we were all blown away (figuratively and very nearly literally!) by having this awesome machine come in so close to us! Although that was hard to top, the rest of the emergency services teams were not to be outdone - firefighting displays, climbing on and in all sorts of trucks and boats, water-bombing helicopters and sea rescues were all amazing experiences for the little guys and we're sure that they will remember this for a long time to come! Not all of the expos are by the water, however they are very nearly as impressive (the water-bombing is hard to beat!), with a lot of the same impressive displays and equipment on show. They really are a fun day out with the little guys and it’s great to show support to our emergency services personnel!
