Where is it: King George Square, Brisbane CBD
What's it all about: An ice-skating attempt to set a new Australian record!
Tell me more: Brisbane isn’t really the first place that you think of when you think ice skating (especially with the beautiful weather of late!), but Australia’s first ever Winter Olympic gold medallist did train here! We joined a very keen group for an early morning ice skate in Brisbane’s King George Square for an attempt to break the Australian record for the longest ice skating conga line! Yes, we know that this record is a little obscure, but then to a lot of locals here think that ice skating in Brisbane is a bit obscure! But this event was for a great cause – raising money for Variety – the children’s charity and it was heaps of fun – it was the first time our little guys had tried skating and they loved it! And after all that we’re still not too sure if we broke the record – we were having too much fun to take notice!
Where is it: Events in Brisbane, Bundaberg and Toowoomba as well as NSW, Victoria and NT!
What's it all about: A fun run designed to cheer people up (seeing hundreds of Santas in a fun run is pretty funny!) and raise funds for Variety!
How can I join in: Pre-register or turn up on the day! Your entry fee also gets you a Santa costume and beard! The whole aim of this run is to raise funds, so fundraise as much as you can!
Tell me more: The Variety Santa Fun Run is a really fun way to raise funds for a very worthwhile cause. It's a 5km run for people of all abilities - there are some serious runners in this event as well as families like ours who are content with walking at our own pace and the track is all access, so it's great for prams! The Brisbane course takes you through the CBD and Southbank on a Sunday morning with no road running or crossing - again a great aspect for families who want to join in! Overall, it was a very fun start to our Sunday morning! We took a very casual approach to this run - we received lots of encouragement as we made our way around the track and seeing all those Santas lined up for the start was very impressive!
