What’s it all about: A stand-out restaurant in one of Brisbane’s premiere boutique shopping and dining districts!
Tell me more: James Street is a very impressive are here in Brisbane, with an eclectic mix of classy and boutique shopping and dining options. So it could be seen to be difficult to stamp your mark here - but it’s something that Beaux Rumble has managed to do in an impressive fashion! Beaux Rumble combines a chef in Alan Wise who boasts experience in some of the finest michelin-starred restaurants with a fantastically designed and presented location and created something wonderful. This restaurant just oozes class, and even though this is an upscale establishment, it still remains a place where you can casually relax.
The dishes here at Beaux Rumble replicate the fantastic fusion of the restaurant - perfectly presented dishes that taste absolutely wonderful, and extremely knowledgeable, friendly and helpful staff can explain the dishes, recommend options and perfectly pair your dish with one of the fantastic range of drinks. Portion size is well arranged and again the staff are happy to suggest the perfect combination of appetisers, entrees and mains (as well as desserts!). Adding to the amazing layers of flavours contained within the dishes themselves, the cooking here is done over wood-fire, with different, carefully selected timbers providing not only the fuel, but also imparting their flavour touch to the dishes through their smokes and aromas.
We feasted upon a fantastic combination and the dishes were all so impressive - it was hard to choose a standout. A lovely bread (shaped like a kernel of wheat) called Pain D’ Epi and made from spent beer grain got us going before moving onto entrees of a roast quail and grilled scallops which we couldn’t get enough of, but equally (as a good entree should) they made the thought of the main course even more enticing! The mains we had were both cooked to perfection over the wood - scampi and sirloin and oh so yummy! We finished off with a rhubarb and vanilla custard for dessert!
Dining at Beaux Rumble was a fantastic experience - a wonderful setting, atmosphere, service and above all, amazing food. Open for lunch Fridays and Saturdays and for dinner Tuesdays to Saturdays.

Why we love it: A fantastic hotel that totally matches its fashionable location!
Tell me more: James Street in the inner suburb of Fortitude Valley is the premiere boutique shopping and dining location in Brisbane, and has established itself as one of the city’s most lively precincts. So you would expect that the accommodation options here would live up to the high standard that James St sets. And Sage Hotel James St does just that!
Sage Hotel is a modern and wonderfully comfortable motel perfectly located for exploring and enjoying James St as well as the rest of Brisbane. We stayed in their Superior Double Double room with 2x double beds and a sofa bed which had more than enough room for the 5 of us, and even a special little treat for our little girl - her very own tee-pee tent to sleep in! Such a lovely little touch that excited the kids no end. The beds were super comfy and we were provided with a lovely continental breakfast in our room (there is no restaurant in the hotel, but plenty close by) so we could ease into the morning after a fantastic night’s sleep.
Like all 93 rooms at Sage, ours came with free wi-fi, a fantastic range of in-house movies, air conditioning and pod coffee machines (yay!). It also had a balcony with views across to the city, and while there is no on-site pool or gym, as a guest at Sage you will receive complimentary access to Function Well 24-hour Fitness and the Valley Pool - both just a short walk from the hotel. All this is topped off with a selection of exquisite and locally sourced selections in the mini bar. All of these little details made for a very relaxing stay!
But back to its location - James St. This short little stretch of road is home to a huge range of fashion labels, gourmet food and cafes, markets and lifestyle shops, this leafy street offers a relaxed and resort-style vibe different to all other shopping districts here in Brisbane - and everything is within walking distance. At night the relaxed vibe starts to give way a little with a number of classy bars, cinema and entertaining restaurants setting the mood, and if that’s not enough, it’s walking distance to the entertainment and nightclub precinct of ‘the Valley’. No wonder it’s such a popular spot.
We can’t rate Sage Hotel highly enough - a fantastic location, lovely facilities and friendly and professional staff all combine beautifully here at Sage Hotel James St., and if you have the chance to stay we’re sure that you’ll love it too! It’s the perfect place to base yourself for a relaxing staycation, a weekend of shopping or to experience Brisbane’s nightlife.

Why we love it: Beautiful swimwear on display in the gorgeous relaxed setting of Emporium Hotel's Cocktail Bar - how could we not love this!
Tell me more: We were privileged to be able to attend a lovely showing of beautiful swimwear from Kate Davis Steer's SunSoaked - a local Brisbane swimwear label that is now distributed and worn across the world! Here in Brisbane we are definitely living in sun soaked and beach-loving environment, so it's great to have beautiful styles from a designer who understands that protecting our skin (the premium fabrics used have UPF 50+ ratings) does not have to mean foregoing on style! The designs are just gorgeous and they have arrived just in time our summer!
